This article addresses service renewal settings. You can set other options for the behavior of services before expiration according to the instructions in the article Administration – Service Behavior Upon Expiration. You can find detailed information about the course of service expiration in the article Services – Expiration.

In this article, you will learn:

Service Renewal

Whenever you renew your service, you set the selected period from the current expiration date.

The system will increase the requested period once it successfuly processes payment for the service. Be careful to pay the exact amount using the most recent variable symbol, if the type of payment you have chosen requires this information.

Changing billing information and activating or deactivating some service extensions cancels the original bill and issues a new one with a new variable symbol. If you send the payment with the original or old variable symbol, the system will fail to renew the service. Contact us via the contact form, include the name of the service and the variable symbol of the payment sent.

The basic time unit for service renewal is 1 year. Some services allow longer periods, some shorter (those usually with a surcharge). You can find an overview in the following table:

ServiceRenewal
Webhosting, WebSite, Cloud, CD1 year (can be purchased repeatedly)
Domains1 to 10 years (usually up to 10 years)
WMS, VPS, dedicated servers, Disk1 year, or 1 month (with 10% surcharge)

For details on how services expire, see the article Services – Expiration.

Common Issues

Common problems with renewing services include:

Service Inaccessible in the Customer Admin Panel

Issue: The service isn’t showing up in the customer administration panel.

Cause: The service is registered with another provider, with another customer, or is deleted.

Solution: Check whether the service is working. If so, make sure that WEDOS is your provider for that service, and that you are logged into the correct account. If you are unable to verify this, please contact customer support for assistance. Enter the type and name of the service you want to renew. Support can send you a hint of the name or company of the service administrator, or the login email. The extent of the help provided is entirely up to support.

If the service is not working, there is a high probability that the system deleted it after it expired. You can find more information about the expiration of services in the article Services – Expiration.

Domain Renewal Discount Unavailable

Issue: There is no input field for entering a discount coupon in the domain renewal order.

Cause: We already offer domains basically at purchase prices, so we do not offer any additional discounts for them.

Solution: Carefully review the terms of your discount coupon and use it to extend the service for which it applies.

Renewal Discount Coupon Doesn’t Work

Issue: The discount coupon doesn’t work while renewing services.

Cause: The coupon has expired, the maximum number of its applications has been exhausted, or you are entering a coupon that only works for setting up new services.

Solution: Carefully review the terms of use and the expiration date of your discount coupon. If you are convinced that the coupon for extending your service should work, send the coupon code, the name of the service where you are applying it, and the text or screenshot of the error message via the contact form.

Low Balance on Credit Account

Issue: Attempting bulk renewal throws the error: Balance of the credit account is too low (X EUR). Order price is Y EUR.

Solution: Recharge your credit account.

Automatically Renewed Service Expired

Issue: An automatically renewed service did not renew due to insufficient credit and expired.

Cause: If there is low credit on the credit account and the service is not renewed, the system does not issue an invoice for it and tries to renew from the credit account again. If the renewal fails, the service expires.

Solution: Renew the service manually. Check and, if necessary, change the invoicing data of the credit account, so that you receive a notification about an unsuccessful renewal of the service next time.

If you want to keep track of service expirations and other outages of web and email services, use the WEDOS EWM domain extension or WEDOS OnLine monitoring.

Returned Renewal Payment

Issue: The payment for the service renewal has been refunded.

Cause: As soon as the system deletes the expired service, it returns payments with the corresponding variable symbol. The invoicing department will usually contact you regarding payments that the system failed to match automatically, or that do not correspond to any older payment on record.

Solution: Check the invoicing email service to see if the invoicing department has contacted you regarding the unidentified payment. We typically return payments received more than 30 days after the service has expired (with some exceptions) because the system has deleted the services associated with them.

FAQ

Question: Why are you sending me a payment request for a service extension a month before the due date?
Answer: By default, we send emails in advance to reduce the risk of service outages in the event of complications with emails or payments. To change the notification frequency, follow the Administration – Service Behavior Upon Expiration guide.

Question: Can I use my credit account to pay for renewal manually?
Odpověď: Yes, you can find the tutorial in this article.

Question: If I pay for the service early, will I lose a piece of the previous period?
Answer: No matter when you pay for the service (as long as it exists), it will be extended from the original expiration date. The same applies to paying for the service late: if you pay for the service 2 days later, the system will extend it again from the expiry date, not from the date of receiving the payment and restoring the service back into operation.
