DNS – Add Domain

  DNS

This article deals with adding a domain to WEDOS DNS if there are no records for it yet. Domains with WEDOS services may have WEDOS DNS set up automatically. To check DNS records, follow the DNS – Domain Records guide.

Adding a domain to WEDOS DNS has no effect until you set our DNS servers for the domain according to the Domains – DNS Servers (NSSET) guide.

In this article, you will learn:

Add Domain to WEDOS DNS

Managing domains and service names in the customer administration may automatically add the domain to WEDOS DNS records. You can verify the existence of the domain in WEDOS DNS and its status by following these steps:

  1. Log into the customer administration panel.
  2. In the navigation bar, click DNS.

If you don’t see the domain on the list, add it manually.

Automatic DNS

The following actions let you add the domain to DNS automatically:

While performing these actions, changes to WEDOS DNS are typically selected by default. If you do not want to add the domain to WEDOS DNS, uncheck the corresponding option.

Domains added to DNS automatically have pre-populated DNS records. The system automatically directs new domains to the default page, hosting services to the corresponding Webhosting, Mailhosting or WebSite.

Automatically adding a domain to WEDOS DNS by transfering the domain or creating and modifying hosting services does not change the domain’s DNS servers (NSSET).

Manual DNS

Follow these steps to add your domain to WEDOS DNS.

  1. Log into the customer administration panel.
  2. In the navigation bar, select DNS.
  3. In the left menu, click Add Domain to DNS.
  4. Enter:
    • Name: enter only the fully qualified domain name (without www and other subdomains, e.g. wds-test.eu). This field is required.
    • Type: leave the option set to primary if you want to manage DNS with us.
    • Template: when entering a domain into DNS, you can have records automatically filled in according to a prepared template. Not a required field.
    • Primary IP: IPv4 address of the server from which domain records are downloaded; it only works with a secondary domain. Not a required field.
  5. Agree to the terms and click the Add Domain button.

Bulk DNS

To add domains to DNS in bulk, first prepare a template to prepopulate DNS records. Then perform the following:

  1. Select Add Multiple Domains from the left menu.
  2. In the first step, add domains to the list, one per row. Click the Continue button.
    • To overwrite existing settings, check the delete existing domains in DNS and create new option.
  3. In the second step, select a template, accept the terms and click Continue.
  4. In the last step, review the information and click Finish.

DNS Templates

DNS templates are used to quickly populate the DNS records of a new domain. You will use them mainly when adding domains to DNS manually or in bulk.

You can find the template management interface by following these steps:

  1. Log into the customer administration panel.
  2. In the navigation bar, select DNS.
  3. In the left menu, click Templates.

In this interface, you can add new templates and manage existing ones.

You can use the (domain) wildcard in the templates, which the system replaces with the domain name during application. For example, when applying the template ftp.(domain) to the domain wds-test.eu, the resulting record will be ftp.wds-test.eu.

The system applies templates to DNS once – modifying the template has no effect on previously added domains.
