VPS – server restart

  Virtual Servers (VPS SSD)

For virtual servers are available two ways to restart:

  • soft reset – restarting by the operating system – the operating system is finished, it saves all the work and initiates instruction to reboot of the operating system
  • hard reset – forced restarting (equivalent to disconnecting form the electricity and reconnecting), used in case of non-functional operating system

To control the server in the customer administration, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account in the customer center (client.wedos.com)
  2. Select tab Serverhosting
  3. In the list, select a specific service and click on it to open the detail of server

In the administration of virtual server are available, these buttons:

  • turn on – turn on the server, if it was switched off
  • turn off – forced server shutdown
  • shutdown – sending a request to the operating system through ACPI to shut down (if this function supported by the operating system on VPS and is enabled), sometimes it is necessary to send this request multiple times
  • hard reset – forced server reboot

Turn off the server and hard reset will disconnect you from VNC. In this case, you need to log in via VNC after its launch again. When you doing a soft reset, you are not disconnected from KVM(VNC).
