Add ISO Image
VPS SSD and HDD virtual servers have their own virtual drive allowing you to mount ISO images of CD/DVD media.
The system only accepts ISO files available directly via URL address which doesn’t require login or any sort of confirmation/verification.
You will find several premade ISO images in the system. If none of them suit you, add your own by following these steps:
- Log into the customer administration panel.
- In the navigation bar, select Server Hosting VPS SSD or VPS HDD.
- Select the VPS you want to add the ISO to.
- In the left menu, select ISO CD/DVD Management.
- In the Add ISO CD/DVD section, enter the URL and click Download.
You can see the download information directly in the customer administration panel.
Mount ISO Image
To mount or unmount an ISO image, follow these steps:
- Log into the customer administration panel.
- In the navigation bar, select Server Hosting VPS SSD or VPS HDD.
- Select a VPS.
- in the ISO CD/DVD section of the service detail, choose the ISO and click the Mount or Unmount button.
You will immediately see the attached image in the OS as if you inserted the media.
The CD/DVD remains connected after one soft reset (via the operating system or Ctrl+Alt+Del) and the server will boot from it in that case. After a hard reset, the CD/DVD is not connected, except by using the Hard Reset + Mount button.
Observe the following safety precautions when working with ISO CD/DVDs:
● If you are no longer using the ISO file, unmount it. The system continously scans for and removes files occupying shared space, and may cause your server to shut down during this maintenance.
● If you do not want to boot from the CD/DVD, unmount it immediately after use. Otherwise, an accidental reboot may boot from the CD/DVD instead of the VPS operating system.
Boot from CD/DVD
Connect the KVM client before booting from CD/DVD.
After adding and mounting the ISO image, you can boot from it after a soft reset or a hard reset.
Boot after Soft Reset
If the operating system is responding and you can perform a normal server restart:
- Mount the CD/DVD using the Mount button.
- Restart the operating system using the Ctrl+Alt+Del command.
The server will boot from the mounted CD/DVD.
Boot after Hard Reset
If there is no operating system installed, or the installed system does not respond and therefore you cannot perform a soft reset, select the CD/DVD in the customer administration panel and click on the Hard Reset + Mount button.
Common Issues
Common issues with installing from a custom ISO include:
Cannot Read from CD/DVD
Issue: KVM displays the following error: Could not read from CDROM, Code 0003.
Solution: Send the Ctrl+Alt+Del command according to your VNC client’s manual.
FAQ
Question: How do I upload an ISO from my computer?
Answer: Use any repository from which the file is available directly via URL without the need for additional authentication. Only VPS ON supports ISO uploads.
