VPS ON – Upgrade

This article deals with upgrading the VPS ON service. If you want to upgrade VPS SSD, follow the instructions VPS SSD – Upgrade.

In this article, you will learn:

Upgrading VPS ON Parameters

Upgrading VPS ON parameters allows you to independently change the number of processor cores, RAM and SSD size within the given limits. The system allows you to set the following parameter ranges:

  • Processor cores: 1 to 4
  • RAM: 0,5 to 16 GB
  • SSD disk space: 5 to 480 GB

By default, CPU performance is shared in a ratio of 1:3. As part of the upgrade, you can reserve the processor cores only for that VPS.

The VPS ON system does not support downgrades. The upgrade process is therefore irreversible for any VPS ON.

Upgrade VPS ON

Before performing an upgrade, take the following precautions:

  • Expect to restart the server. Make sure that all services start properly on the server after restarting.
  • Back up your server. The upgrade itself shouldn’t result in data loss, but there have been reports of damage due to unprofessional interventions during or following the upgrade.

Next, follow these steps:

  1. Log into the customer administration panel.
  2. In the navigation bar, select Server Hosting VPS ON.
  3. Select the service to upgrade.
  4. In the left menu, select Upgrade.
  5. Use the sliders to set the desired parameters and confirm using the Upgrade button.

  1. Shut the system down using the Power Off button.
  2. Undeploy the powered-off server.
  3. Turn on the undeployed system using the Resume button.

Detailed instructions on restarting the server can be found in the VPS ON – Restart instructions.

Filesystem Check

If you increased disk space, check whether the filesystem has been updated correctly.

  • With a pre-installed OS, the system should upgradeautomatically. If it doesn’t happen, proceed to the next point.
  • If you are using a custom OS or LVM, increase the disk on the server manually according to your system’s manual.

Common Issues

Common issues with upgrading VPS ON include:

Parameters Didn’t Change

Issue: The system still shows the original parameter values.

Cause: A common cause is an insufficiently thorough restart.

Solution: Perform a restart in the ON SunStone interface according to the System Restart chapter. Any other kinds of reboot are isufficient.

Upgrade Stuck

Issue: The system is stuck in PROLOG_FAILURE, EPILOG_FAILURE, or similar for more than 10 minutes.

Solution: Ask support to investigate. Provide the name or number of the VPS ON service, the situation that led to the error (e.g. shutdown after upgrade), and the error message.

Filesystem Didn’t Increase

Issue: The filesystem was not automatically increased on the pre-installed OS.

Solution: Increase the disk on the server manually according to your system’s manual.
