Switch from Web Hosting to Mailhosting
Go to Mailhosting if you want your domain to run:
- only emails, but no website;
- WEDOS emails and a website with another provider;
- WEDOS emails and the Free variant of WebSite.
Since the WebSite Free service does not use mail servers, you can add Mailhosting to it without conflict. However, other hosting services include email services, so you need to choose one of them to host your emails.
The entire procedure consists of these steps:
Free up Web Hosting Domain Name
The system does not allow creating or setting multiple mail hosting services with the same name. To free up the service name, rename the original hosting service:
- WebSite according to WebSite – Change Domain,
- Webhostingu according to Webhosting – Change Domain,
to a subdomain, such as old.domain.tld, where you replace domain.tld with the original domain.
If the domain name is blocked by a Webhosting alias, remove it according to the guide Webhosting – Aliases.
Order Mailhosting
Now you can create a new Mailhosting service.
Direct DNS MX Records to Mailhosting
If the domain does not use WEDOS DNS records, or you don’t want to have them changed automatically for some reason, set up the following MX-type DNS records once the new Mailhosting is created:
Name TTL Type Data
300 MX 10 mx1.wedos.email
300 MX 10 mx1.wedos.global
300 MX 10 mx1.wedos.com
300 MX 10 mx1.wedos.mx
300 MX 20 mx1.wedos.online
Mailbox Migration to Mailhosting
When automatically migrating from a renamed web hosting to Mailhosting, enter the new name of the Webhosting or WebSite after the @.
You can migrate existing mailboxes to the newly created Mailhosting automatically according to the guide Emails – Automatic Migration Tool, or manually using a desktop email client.

Common Issues
Common problems with switching between web hosting and Mailhosting include:
Domain Name Used with Another Service
Issue: There is an error: Domain name already used with another service.
Cause: Two email services with the same domain name cannot exist in the system at the same time.
Solution: Make sure you have renamed the original service (or ask support to remove the name).
Inaccessible Original Mailboxes
Issue: The mailboxes of the original service cannot be logged into (or the migration tool fails to access them).
Cause: Renaming the original hosting service changes the mailbox name (login).
Solution: If you, for example, had the original mailbox info@domain.tld and renamed the service to old.domain.tld, that mailbox login is now info@stara.domena.tld. If you have asked support to remove the service name, add the service identifier as found in the customer administration panel, for example info@w123456. Renaming the service does not affect the mailbox password.
FAQ
Question: What should I do if I want web and email hosting at the same time?
Answer: Mail hosting is already part of the Webhosting service and paid variants of WebSite. You only get it if you do not want web hosting (or you have it with another provider), or along with the Free version of WebSite.
Question: I want to have the website as an alias, but separate emails. How can I achieve this?
Answer: At the moment only with a separate Webhosting, on which you will run both separate emails and a website.
