Hiding Domain Contact Information
The conditions for hiding domain contact information are set by the registry, so for different domain TLDs, there are different options for which information can be set as public and which can be hidden.
You can check which information is visible via a registry’s WHOIS system or an online tool.
CZ Domains
You can hide the following information for CZ domain contacts:
- address (only form MojeID contacts verified with CZ.NIC)
- phone
- fax
- VAT ID
- document number
A person’s first and last name, or company name and ID number cannot be hidden.
If your address is hidden, any change to the contact will disable hiding it again until the contact is re-verified by the registry. Contacts registered outside the MojeID service will not be able to hide the address again, even if you verify the contact again.
EU Domains
EU domain contact information cannot be hidden.
For individuals, WHOIS always shows the email address and language.
For businesses, WHOIS displays the company name, city, region, country, email address, and language.
SK Domains
You can hide the following information for SK domain contacts:
- name
- company
- address
- phone
- fax
The SK domain WHOIS system only takes the above setting into account for legal entities (it always displays the name, company name and address).
For natural persons, it always displays only the name, regardless of the above settings.
PL Domains
PL domain contact information cannot be hidden.
For natural persons, WHOIS never shows any information.
For businesses, WHOIS displays the company name, name, address and phone number.
Generic domains (gTLD and nTLD)
For generic domains, the following information is always hidden:
- name
- company
- address
- phone
- fax
You cannot choose to display any of this information.
Show or Hide Contact Information
Edit your domain contact according to the guide Domains – Edit Contact Information.
If your contact supports editing, hide it by checking the corresponding option in the customer administration panel.
By default, all supported information is hidden.
Avoid providing incomplete or false information. By concealing or falsifying domain contact information, you violate the terms of the registry and the registrar. Your domain may be suspended as a consequence.
FAQ
Question: Do you offer a WHOIS privacy service?
Answer: We currently do not offer this service, which usually consists of displaying the registrar’s information instead of the owner’s. You can only hide your information, and only if the registry allows it.
Question: How does contact verification work at CZ.NIC? When will I be able to hide my address?
Answer: Find out the current information wit the registry. Once the registry has enabled you to hide your address, you can do it as usual in the customer administration panel.
Question: What is the risk if I provide false domain contact information?
Answer: The registry can remove your domain from DNS or delete it entirely.
