Domains – Edit Contact Information

  Domains

This article deals with editing a domain contact at WEDOS. If you do not have the contact with us, create it according to the article Domains – Create New Contact or transfer according to the instructions Domains – Contact Transfer.

In this article, you will learn:

Editing Domain Contact Information

You can change any domain contact information except the name and company name. The registries view this change as a change of domain owner, even though it may be the same person. Therefore, if you change your name, create a new contact according to the instructions Domains – Create New Contact and then change the owner of the domain according to the instructions Domains – Change Owner.

Before you start editing, make sure the contact is under our management. If it is not, transfer it according to the instructions Domains – Contact Transfer.

You can edit any domain contact from these registries:

In the case of gTLD domains in the Ascio registry, you cannot edit the contact directly. Make any changes by changing the owner. Follow the instructions in the article Domains – Change Owner.

Hiding Contact Information

You can find more information on hiding contact data in the article Domains – Hide Contact Information.

Deleting Contacts

The system automatically deletes contacts that have not been active (assigned to a domain) for more than 60 days.

Common Issues

When editing contacts, you may commonly encounter the following issues:

Contact Isn’t on the List

Issue: I don’t see my contact in the list of any registry.

Cause: The contact may be in another customer account, with another registrar, or deleted (if the contact has not been used for at least 60 days).

Solution: Try accessing the contact directly from the domain detail. If this is not possible, check:

  • If the contact is in another customer account, move it to yours.
  • If the contact is with another registrar, transfer it with (possible only with the CZ.NIC registry), or create a new one.
  • If the contact has not been registered with the domain for more than 60 days, the system automatically deleted it. Create it again.

AUTH-ID Isn’t Coming

Issue: The email with the contact AUTH-ID does not arrive.

Solution: Wait a few minutes and try to send it again, ideally from a different internet browser. Verify that the email address to which the authorization message is sent is up-to-date and that the authorization email has not gone into the SPAM folder. If the problem persists, contact customer support. Include the contact name and the assigned domain or registry.

Incorrect AUTH-ID

Issue: An error is displayed: Invalid AUTH-ID.

Cause: Most often, this involves entering the domain’s AUTH-ID instead of the contact’s. AUTH-IDs can also expire after a certain amount of time or use.

Solution: Make sure you’re entering the contact’s AUTH-ID, not the domain’s. Ideally, have the AUTH-ID sent to you directly via the link next to the corresponding form field. Make sure the AUTH-ID you’re entering hasn’t been overwritten by another request to send it, and that too much time hasn’t passed since it was generated (ideally, enter it within an hour of receiving it).

Cannot Change Name or Company

Issue: The contact change form does not include a field to change a person’s or company’s name.

Cause: A change of name (including, for example, a change of surname after marriage) or a company name is, from the point of view of domain registries, a change of domain owner.

Solution: Create a new contact with the up-to-date information and then change the domain owner.

Cannot Save Changes

Issue: The contact cannot be saved after making changes.

Cause: The error most often appears with contacts of CZ domains with verified contacts that allow hiding the postal address. Changing the information will void this verification and the address cannot be hidden.

Solution: Uncheck hiding the address for CZ domains and save the contact again.

Často kladené dotazy

Question: Can I edit contacts in bulk?
Answer: If you manage multiple domains at one registry, set the same contact for all of them. Then you can make all the changes in one place. Set the owner either as part of the domain order or owner change.

Question: Can you make the changes for me?
Answer: Changing domain contact information requires strict authorization. From our side, we can perform it, for example, in the case when you cannot authorize yourself online due to an unavailable email. You can find more information on how to solve such a situation in the article Domains – Inaccessible Owner Email.
